What a Vedic kundli is — and what it is not
A plain-language explanation of a Vedic kundli: why date, place, and time matter, what the chart is for, and what it cannot prove.
Kundli means a calculated chart
In everyday Indian usage, a kundli (janam kundli, natal chart) is a diagram of planetary positions for a birth. Vedic or Jyotish practice typically uses a sidereal zodiac and traditional house systems. The important part for a website is simpler: the chart is computed from astronomy plus a chosen traditional overlay. It is not a random quote about your “lucky colour.”
Western tropical horoscopes in magazines often lead with Sun sign only. A kundli, when complete, includes the Moon, Lagna, other grahas, and nodes. Completeness still depends on inputs. A pretty diamond chart with a fake time is not more Vedic; it is more wrong.
What the calculation is for

Sidereal versus tropical, briefly
Sidereal practice aligns signs with the starry backdrop using an ayanamsha. Tropical practice anchors signs to seasons. Both are human conventions. Mixing them in one paragraph without saying so is how internet arguments start. If a YouTube clip uses tropical Sun signs, it is not describing the same overlay as this kundli.
What a kundli cannot prove

Inputs the kundli actually uses
Date, resolved place, and optional time. The engine uses astronomical positions (ephemeris), not a shuffled list of lucky colours. Timezone follows the place. If the place string is ambiguous, check the resolved city on Chart before you trust a house wheel. Language on the screen follows your reading-language picker; the underlying sky math does not change when you switch from English to Hindi.

What “Vedic” does and does not mean here

It does not mean a temple service, a certified priest, or a claim that the Vedas scientifically prove your job offer. If someone sells a kundli as a visa guarantee, that is their marketing.
Reading order for a first kundli
- Time-accuracy notice.
- Sun, then Moon and Nakshatra if shown.
- Lagna and wheel only if time supports them.
- Planet table before dosha labels.
- Period horoscopes after you know they are not a second natal chart.
- Chat last, as a question, not as a verdict engine.
